Already in October 1928 Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist government in Nanjing had invited General Ludendorff (who initially helped Hitler to power), to reorganize the Chinese Army. Emphasizing that Buddha was ‘Aryan’ and spiritual leader of the German Volk, Taixu in August 1937, offered to be Hitler’s Buddhist advisor and urged him to be more tough and for his Government to be not so hesitant to “break resistance” (Bundesarchiv Berlin R 5101 23400-00098/00099).
